Arapahoe Road Corridor Study To Begin
Study aims to improve mobility and accessibility from I-25 to Parker Road

Denver, CO – A detailed transportation study of the Arapahoe Road Corridor from I-25 to Parker Road is getting underway. The engineering firm David Evans & Associates, Inc. has been chosen to lead a team in examining alternatives for improving mobility, accessibility and safety along this major arterial that stretches primarily through Greenwood Village, Centennial and unincorporated Arapahoe County.

The study will examine all modes of transportation, including mass transit, and pedestrian and bicycle traffic. It will also take into consideration the role Arapahoe Road plays in the geographic area between I-225 on the north, and E-470 on the south.

“It will be a challenge to determine the vision for Arapahoe Road and how it will work 20 or 30 years from now. The study is extremely important to the City of Centennial, which views Arapahoe Road as the city’s Main Street. Our goal will be to balance regional mobility with local community needs,” said Bryan Weimer, Capital Improvements Program Manager in Arapahoe County’s Engineering Division.

The majority of funding for the 18-month study will be from federal funds (82.79%), and the remainder shared among Arapahoe County, Centennial, Greenwood Village and CDOT.

“The first phase will include gathering public input, economic and land use analysis, traffic data collection and planning, as well as concept development and analysis,” said Joe Hart, project manager with David Evans & Associates. Other members of the study team include Felsburg, Holt & Ullevig Engineering, Ordonez & Vogelsang, Webb Public Relations, Economic and Planning Systems, Poitra Visual Communications, Hartwig & Associates and All Traffic Data Services.

Hart added, “We will work very closely with regional agencies and each of the local governments, corridor businesses, community residents and corridor commuters to identify a long-term plan for Arapahoe Road that best meets the goals and objectives for all local communities and for regional mobility.”
